Jailer 2 has crossed another major milestone. Rajinikanth’s film has gone past ₹650 Cr gross worldwide today, becoming only the second Tamil film ever to reach this mark after 2.0.
And the biggest record of all is now within touching distance.
Only 2.0 Got Here Before
Until now, Rajinikanth’s 2.0 was the only Tamil film to cross ₹650 Cr worldwide. Jailer 2 has now joined it, and it has done so in just 10 days.
That means both of the only ₹650 Cr Tamil films belong to Rajinikanth.
A Massive Second Weekend
Jailer 2 is having a huge second weekend. The film is set to collect over ₹100 Cr worldwide across its second Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
For a film in its second week, that’s an extraordinary number, and it shows the word of mouth is still pulling audiences in big numbers.
Industry Hit Loading
The next milestone is the one everyone has been waiting for. 2.0 holds the all-time Kollywood record with close to ₹700 Cr worldwide.
With the strong second weekend, Jailer 2 could get very close to that mark, or even beat it, as early as tomorrow, its second Sunday.
Not Kollywood, It’s Rajiniwood
Jailer 2’s run once again shows Rajinikanth’s unmatched hold over Tamil cinema. He continues to set and break industry records with his own films. Jailer 2 is set to beat 2.0, his own record, and become Kollywood’s new industry hit.
At this point, it’s fair to say Tamil cinema’s biggest milestones all run through one name.
