Story: The city of Hyderabad is terrified as many women go missing. Aadhya (Nandita Swetha) gets appointed as the head of a special investigation unit by the government to quickly capture the culprit and bring justice to families who are grieving. Abhay (Ashwin), who has a past connection with Aadhya is also the part of the theme. What are the problems faced by Abhay and Aadhya in solving the case? What happened to their relationship in the past? Who is the Killer? Answers to these questions form the rest of the film.
Analysis: The opening of the film is very intriguing, with disturbing music and a frightening frame, immediately makes one curious about the plot. The theme of the missing girls is also perfectly set in the film. However, the follow-up sequences were a bit ordinary. Despite having a strong conflict between the leads, also the duel between them and the higher officials, the conflict was not executed perfectly. Some fun and romance parts come and go. Towards the interval, the narrative again picks up some pace.
The actual story, and suspense of the movie is revealed at the start of the second half. Although the flashback is a bit long, the consistent and cohesive tone keeps one engaged intermittently. The suspense unfolds and when it all looks like leading to a possible climax, the director surprises with a terrific twist. Although the background of that turn is a bit unconvincing, the thrilling factor in the scene makes up for it.
Performances: Ashwin looked good in a police officer role and because of his well toned body, the action sequences looked believable. However, his diction and performance could have been better at places. Nandita Shwetha was fine. Makarand Deshpande and Sijju performed well in pivotal roles while Subhalekha Sudhakar, Sanjay Swaroop, Raghu Kunche, and Sreenivasa Reddy were ok.
Plus Points:
- Main Theme related scenes
- Flashback
- Climax
- Background Score
Minus Points:
- Patchy Narrative at parts
- Some unclear characters/scenes
- Few shocking scenes
Verdict:
Overall, Hidimbha the film is a well-intended thriller with an engrossing plot. The important sequences and twists work well for the movie, while the narration in the middle portions acts as a spoiler part. It can be watched once for the crime thriller lovers, but for others it has its limitations because of the gore content.
