For various reasons, Family Star is carrying a very low buzz. The film is made on a high budget of almost 90 Cr and the low buzz is a matter of concern for everyone involved. The digital rights are bought by Amazon Prime Video. Dil Raju expected to achieve half recovery from non-theatricals and the rest needs to be achieved from theatricals for breakeven.
What’s also worrying the Family Star team is the weak advance bookings. Till Wednesday, Hyderabad city’s advance bookings are just 71 Lakhs. In comparison, Liger minted 3 crores and Kushi did 2 crores by this time. This shows audiences are a bit reluctant towards Family Star. In the U.S. advance booking is just $85K while Liger and Kushi had done $250K by this time.
Dil Raju needs Geetha Govindam’s range performance from Family Star as he has invested heavily in this project. While the Parasuram- Vijay Deverakonda combination and the presence of Mrunal Thakur is a big plus, Family Star needs to achieve an extremely positive talk as the buzz is very low. The makers trimmed 13 minutes to the final version even after censor and are hoping the trimmed version would appeal to the audience.
The positive sign for the film is the combination and release date and even if the movie opens with weak numbers, it can have a long run and big days at the box office if the word of mouth is positive. The weeks after the release have holidays like Ugadi, Ramzan, Sri Ramanavami, and May Day. Apart from that, it’s the summer season, and no notable releases in summer after this so the makers are hoping to attract the audience in big numbers.
