Directors’ overconfidence killing films

Recently released Indian 2 and The GOAT had almost the same run time. These two films were over 3 hours on screen. Directors of these films, Shankar and Venkat Prabhu were also not bothered about this long runtime. They opined that for the span that was narrated this runtime was needed. But these directors’ overconfidence is killing films overall.

Many raised doubts over the long run time these two films had. But the directors didn’t care and audience felt the lag while watching these films on screen. If films contain any important scenes then it can be understood but these directors included many unnecessary scenes that disturbed the flow. We saw many complaining about the run time in Indian 2 and the same now happened again with The GOAT. Many said that The GOAT felt lagging and opined that many scenes must have a trimming.

Directors overconfidence on their job is literally killing their own films. They say that every scene was important but it isn’t in reality. After the release, they release this and start trimming some portions. But the damage will be done already which affects the talk of the film. So they must realise this before the release of the film itself. We have to see if other directors learn it atleast with these two films.
