The Ilaiyaraaja biopic was announced in 2024 with Dhanush as the lead, and a lot of pre-production work had already taken place. The film was initially planned to begin shooting in 2025, with Arun Matheswaran as the director and Dhanush in the lead role.
But sadly, things didn’t go as planned, and the project faced a long delay due to multiple reasons, and at one point, rumors even surfaced that the film had been shelved.
Now, the latest update is that the Ilaiyaraaja biopic has not been shelved, but it will no longer happen under Arun Matheswaran’s direction. The team is currently looking for a new director to move the project forward and is planning to start the shoot by April 2027 (summer).
The official announcement for the Ilaiyaraaja biopic, starring Dhanush, was made on March 20, 2024. The project, featuring music composed by Ilaiyaraaja himself, was launched in a star-studded event in Chennai, attended by Kamal Haasan.
