Folk singer Darsanam Mogulaiah has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award. The singer shot to fame after he sang the Bheemla Nayak title song. Darsanam Mogulaiah is a noted folk singer who has extraordinary expertise on the Kinnera instrument.
Mogulaiah belongs to Amrabad, Mahbubnagar, and is the only person today who can play Kinnera which is made of bamboo sticks, pumpkins, honey, wax, bull horns, and mirrors. He is the fifth generation artist to play Kinnera and learnt it from his father at the age of 8
The initial vocals of the Bheemla Nayak title song was performed by Mogulaiah who received great applause for his part. Pawan Kalyan also later offered financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the folk performer.
There are 130 names on the list of Padma Awardees this year. The list was announced a while ago on the eve of India’s 73rd Republic Day.
