Rajinikanth’s Coolie is struggling at the box office after a good first weekend. The film was expected to break the existing records, but it failed to live up to the expectations. Coolie fails to beat Leo’s 1st week collections.
Before the release of Coolie, Vijay’s Leo was holding the records of the 1st weekend and 1st week, and 2 Point O was holding the closing records for Kollywood. As said above, Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action drama was expected to break all records.
However, Rajinikanth’s Coolie failed to beat Leo’s 1st-week collections and did not live up to audiences’ expectations. The film opens with below-par WOM and reviews.
Still, with a 150Cr+ opening and a 380Cr+ weekend gross, the film sets new benchmarks for Kollywood. But after the weekend the film fails to maintain strong legs at the box office.
Leo’s 1st week gross stands at 466 Cr, whereas Coolie’s 1st week numbers will be around 430 Cr. Also, the film’s closing will fall under 2 Point O and Jailer, while Leo is likely to settle at 4th position.
Even to settle at 4th position, Coolie, the film, needs to beat Ponniyin Selvan 1 (500 Cr), and a good second weekend is needed for it to do so.
