Vijay’s Varisu and Ajith’s Thunivu are releasing head-to-head on January 11, 2023, which is a Wednesday just before the Pongal weekend. Both films have been getting a vast number of theaters across Tamil Nadu (TN), still in certain regions the deals are yet to be done.
Almost all theatres are screening both the films, as even the single screens are alternating Varisu and Thunivu between different show timings. Currently, Thunivu is said to have a 5% lead among the two in terms of screen share.
It is not unusual for cinemas to capitalize on a star heroes popularity by holding special fan shows and selling movie tickets at more-than-allowed exorbitant prices.
Despite the Tamil Nadu Government and its various bodies being strict about such methods, the ticket pricing of Thunivu and Varisu shows are selling for as high as Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000. These early morning fan shows start at 1 AM and 4 Am, therefore, for the Ajith and Vijay starrer.
The competition has produced a massive buzz for both the films in Tamil Nadu. Vijay and Ajith both are leading superstars in Tamil Nadu and with splitting the screens, the demand for tickets of early morning shows is going insane for both the movies.
The exhibitors have not opened the tickets at online or counter for many theaters, and they are directly selling the tickets in the black market by cashing the craze. The tickets are selling at 1500,2000, and it is reported that some famous screens are selling the tickets at 2500,3000 as well. Thunivu Shows will start from 1am and Varisu shows will open from 4 am in Tamil Nadu.
Interest surrounding festival/holiday releases are always a notch bigger than normal, and it is evident through the craze and online buzz circling both Thunivu and Varisu.
