Bhola Shankar is the biggest loss venture ever in Telugu states

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar has been a disappointing fare at the box-office with several fans openly expressing their dismay at yet another remake from the Megastar. The film was clouded with doubts over its box-office right from the day it was announced but there was some hope that Megastar’s box-office pull might help in recovering the business. However, Meher Ramesh’s routine direction, predictable and outdated story, and lack of an exciting screenplay ensured that the film had very few takers.

Bhola Shankar’s Telugu states rights are valued at Rs 76Cr approx and the movie completely crashed on 1st Monday collecting single-digit shares in each territory. Today will be the last day for the film and if we consider only share from the Telugu states it is not even 20Cr. The makers have incurred around 60Cr loss including P&P in just Telugu states which has never happened in the Telugu cinema history.

The dismal performance of Bhola Shankar should be an eye-opener for the Megastar, who should now seek to work in direct films which have substantial story and scope for performance. Remakes occasionally might benefit the stars, but the stardom can only be sustained with originality.
