The much-awaited sequel, Akhanda 2, has registered a never-before business for Balakrishna and Boyapati Srinu, and the film must hit 200 Cr to achieve break-even at the worldwide box office.
Here’s the pre-release business breakdown for Akhanda 2 (Telugu)
- Nizam – ₹27 crore
- Ceeded – ₹24 crore
- Uttarandhra – ₹13.50 crore
- Guntur – ₹9.50 crore
- East Godavari – ₹8.25 crore
- Krishna – ₹7 crore
- West Godavari – ₹6.50 crore
- Nellore – ₹4.40 crore
- Rest of India – ₹8 crore
- Overseas – ₹15 crore
The Telugu version’s theatrical rights are valued at 123 Cr, and as said above, to achieve breakeven, Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 needs to collect 200 Cr gross worldwide. Until now, Balakrishna did not even achieve a 150 Cr gross figure, but this crazy sequel needs to join the 200 Cr club for the hit status.
This target is definitely achievable. If we look at the first part, it collected 130 Cr gross with the lowest ticket prices amidst the COVID wave. So, if the sequel opens with the same WOM, with the current ticket prices, it can easily do 50% better than the first part.
Also, the Akhanda sequel’s Karnataka all-language rights are sold for ₹7.5 Cr, and Tamil Nadu all-language rights are sold for ₹2.75 Cr. If the film does not get the expected momentum from other languages, then the Telugu version alone needs to earn a ₹10 Cr share in these two territories.
