Over the past many decades Tollywood has seen some unforgettable blockbusters that have defined the industries. Some of these films took quite some time to go on floors and finally release. While there were some which could never see the light of the day. In this 10 Tollywood movies that got shelved midway (Part 2), let’s take a look at the which never materialized. Who knows? Some of these might have gone on to be the next blockbusters!
1. NTR Trivikram
We all know the kind of sensation Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava created at the box office. NTR- Trivikram is a combo that the audience were longing for for quite some time. Trivikram’s magical dialogues along with NTR mesmerizing dialogue delivery was witnessed in ASVR. It was speculated that post RRR, this would happen again. However, due to certain unknown reasons, the combo couldn’t repeat. There are also reports that Trivikram titled this story “Ayinanu Poyiravale Hastinaku”, continuing his fixation with historical titles.
2. Ram Charan and Koratala Siva
Post Bharat ane Nenu, Koratala presented a story to Ram Charan which the latter loved and okayed immediately. In fact, a grand launch ceremony and muhurtam shot were also done in Hyderabad. However, it is reported that it was around this time Charan got offered Boyapati Srinu’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama(VVR). Charan was quite enthusiastic about VVR and shot extensively for it. Post-VVR, he got busy with RRR hence this untitled Koratala movie couldn’t materialize. Koratala however, is directing Charan in Acharya and it needs to be seen if this shelved movie is picked up for a later time.
3. Pawan Kalyan and SJ Surya
This is an unforgettable combination for Power Star fans. It is with SJ Surya that Pawan delivered Kushi. However, this combo also gave Puli. Either ways, the buzz is always at peaks when these two meet. Post Sardar Gabbar Singh, this combo was finalised for their third film and North Star Entertainments was to bankroll the project. Muhurtam shot along with a formal launch of the movie also took place but the movie couldn’t pan out as SJ Surya started getting busy with acting while Pawan Kalyan got occupied with politics as well as his next film- Katamrayudu.
4. Mahesh Babu and Krish
This is a combination that generated great hype back in those days. Krish was fresh from a successful debut with Gamyam. He mentioned that he will be joining hands with a big superstar for his next. It so turned out that the big superstar was none other than Mahesh Babu. However, for some reason, this movie never worked out. Recently Krish revealed that he is still awaiting a chance to work with the Super Star and even has a fresh script ready for him.
5. Auto Johnny
Touted to be Chiranjeevi’s comeback film, this Puri Jagannath directorial generated massive hype right from the day title was announced. Reportedly, the Mega Star loved the first half narrated by Puri. However, while speaking to the media on one occasion, Chiru mentioned that the second half needs some more work on it. Puri claimed that Chiru never mentioned this to him directly. However, he’ll work on it and make necessary changes. This movie also vanished in thin air without any updates. Chiranjeevi later moved on to Khaidi no. 150 which became his comeback to Tollywood movies in 2017.
6. Radha
Radha was touted to be the first collaboration between Venkatesh and Maruthi way before Babu Bangaaram. The movie was launched amidst great fanfare and a poster featuring Venky was also released to great reviews. According to the insiders, this movie would have reminisced Tollywood viewers of the Venkatesh from the Nuvvu Nanku Nacchavu and Malliswari era. However, due to certain. unforeseen circumstances, this was also shelved.
7. Rythu
Directed by Krishna Vamsi and starring Balakrishna, this was one of the most prestigious project for the actor. Balakrishna loved the title as well as the story of the film. The makers of the film approached Amitabh Bachchan for a crucial role but his dates were not available. The movie was pushed for a later time as everyone felt that only Amitabh Babchchan could do justice to the role. Reportedly, Krishna Vamsi is still hung on making the film and is waiting for the right time.
8. Aata Naade Veta Naade
Based on popular TV show Breaking Bad, Teja’s Aata Naade Veta Naade was based on a drug peddling story. Venkatesh was cast in a role quite similar to that of Walter White from the original series. Reportedly, Rana was also approached to play a key role for this film which never worked out. This is one of those Tollywood movies that could have been the gamechanger had it released.
9. Golipuram Railway Station
Another Venkatesh starrer, this movie was to be directed by popular director Vamsy. Reportedly, Venkatesh loved the comedy track of the movie and was quite interested in working with Vamsy who gave some memorable hits in the 80s and 90s. However, for some reasons, this movie also got shelved.
10. Vikrama Simha Bhupati
Starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, this crazy combination created massive hype back in those days. Kodi Ramakrishna and Balakrishna both were known for their love for the adventure fantasy genre. These two coming together for this very genre excited fans to no ends and the title Vikrama Simha Bhupati added to the interest. Due to various technical and dates issue, this movie didn’t materialize.
