Story:

Zebra follows Surya (Satyadev), an intelligent bank employee who gets caught in a dangerous financial trouble. When his girlfriend, Swati (Priya Bhavani Shankar) who is also a bank employee, faces trouble due to an error, Surya steps in to help, only to find himself in deep water. He’s forced to repay a massive sum of 5 crores money to a ruthless gangster, Aadi (Dhananjay), within 4 Days. How did he end up in this situation? Who all are behind this? How he managed to payback the amount is the rest of the story.

Performances:

Satyadev delivers a commendable performance as the intelligent yet troubled Surya. His portrayal of emotional turmoil and strategic thinking is noteworthy. Comedian Satya provides some light-hearted moments, adding humor to the suspenseful narrative. Priya Bhavani Shankar shines as Swati, her screen presence making a strong impression. Dhananjaya effectively embodies the menacing Aadi, delivering a powerful performance. While Sunil and Satyaraj’s roles are underutilized and lack impact.

Analysis:

Zebra begins promisingly, with its intriguing premise and well-paced first half. The twist involving Surya’s efforts and the subsequent race against time keep the audience engaged. The film’s humor, primarily driven by Satya’s performance, provides welcome relief from the tension.

However, the second half falters due to a confusing screenplay and excessive character introductions. The film’s runtime feels bloated, with several scenes that could have been trimmed for a tighter narrative. Despite these shortcomings, the cinematography and Ravi Basrur’s background score elevate certain sequences.

Positives:

  • – Engaging first half
  • – Strong performance by Satyadev
  • – Decent background score
  • – Effective cinematography

Negatives:

  • – Weak second half
  • – Excessive runtime
  • – Confusing screenplay and narration
  • – Too many characters

Verdict:

Zebra is a decent crime thriller with a promising premise. While the film’s first half is engaging, the confusing screenplay in the later half and excessive runtime hinder its overall impact. It’s a one-time watch for fans of the genre, but the film’s potential is somewhat impacted due to its narrative flaws.
