Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is one of the biggest Indian films arriving this year, marking Yash’s return to the big screen after KGF: Chapter 2. Directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, the gangster action thriller stars Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. The film was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English and will release in multiple dubbed/subtitled versions, including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam. Made on a reported ₹700–800 crore budget, Toxic is among the most expensive Indian films ever made. It has received an A certificate from the CBFC, with a certified runtime of 194.12 minutes — approximately 3 hours and 14 minutes. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 26.

Plot & Characters — A Gangster Story With a Family Twist

Set in post-independence Goa, Toxic follows a gangster navigating loyalty, morality, violence, jealousy, love and the possibility of redemption. Yash plays a dual role, portraying Raya, the father, and Rumi aka Ticket, his son, with the complicated father-son relationship forming a major part of the narrative. Nayanthara plays Ganga, Yash’s elder sister, while Kiara Advani plays Nadia, with Huma Qureshi as Elizabeth, Rukmini Vasanth as Mellisa and Tara Sutaria as Rebecca. The film’s official plot description promises an atmospheric gangster world filled with brutal action and morally conflicted characters. Interestingly, Yash playing a father and son for the first time adds another intriguing layer to the film’s story and its exploration of family, identity and power.

Box Office Momentum — Advance Bookings & Screen Count

The Toxic trailer dropped earlier this month to massive response, and the hype is now translating into serious box-office momentum. Advance bookings are surging, with reports putting India’s pre-sales above ₹30 crore and more than six lakh tickets sold even before release. Several markets have already seen strong demand, with additional shows being added in cities such as Mumbai. The film is also targeting an enormous worldwide release, reportedly across 12,000-plus screens, underlining the scale of the theatrical push.

Can Toxic Prove Yash’s Star Power Beyond KGF?

After the phenomenal success of the KGF franchise, Yash has taken his time to return with a film that is radically different in tone and scale. Toxic marks a departure from the mass action spectacle of KGF, exploring a darker, more character-driven gangster narrative. Now, with the audience excitement reaching fever pitch and advance bookings breaking records, the big question is simple: Can Toxic prove that Yash’s star power goes far beyond KGF? The film releases worldwide on August 26.
