Wake Up Shankar Sir: This is the request from the producers to the South Indian Cinema’s renowned director Shankar. Known for scoring big hits like Indian, Anniyan, Shivaji, and Robo. The director had a colossal disaster with Kamal Haasan in the form of Indian 2, and today, he released his latest film, Game Change in theaters.
The biggest complaint of Shankar from the producers’ side is his habit of spending beyond the budget for every film and delaying its shooting. If the content is rich and demands a certain grandeur, putting the rich budget is fine, but making a film on a huge budget even for regular content movies like Indian 2 and now Game Changer is definitely not worth it.
If we leave the results aside, both Game Changer and Indian 2 projects have very simple stories and are made as regular commercial entertainers. They do not need big budgets. Shankar’s 2 Point 0 is itself a deficit for producers but one can understand because the subject deals with higher VFX.
But Game Changer and Indian 2 can be made on a very simple budget. However, Shankar threw big money on songs that failed to provide even minimum impact on screen. The big sets for the songs in GC were unnecessary and the director wasted the footage of a complete song, as it was not present in Game Changer. The song had a long schedule but it could not make it to the final cut, because of which the entire shooting footage got wasted.
No one can believe that the budget of films like Game Changer and Indian 2 is more than 400 Cr. Anyone will agree that results are in no one’s hands but budgets are in their hands. If you spend the budget on the subject that demands, then it will work for all involved parties. That is why producers are saying “Wake Up Shankar Sir’
Because of his recent failures, Shankar is now finding it tough to set a producer for his next film. He needs to wake up and focus on rich content films, not on rich visuals. Maybe Shankar is trying to cover his flaws with a big budget and visuals which is getting misfired and producing more failures for him.
