Vijay is undoubtedly the top Kollywood star at the moment and has a terrific fan following and box office track record in Tamil Nadu and even Kerala. Irrespective of talk, most of his films have done well in Tamil and dubbed Telugu versions. By signing Varisu with a Telugu director and Telugu producer he believed it would be a game-changer for his Telugu market.
But now, his calculations have gone wrong. The trailer in particular has done some damage to the movie’s buzz in the Telugu states. In Tamil, the movie is carrying at least some buzz but the same can’t be said about the Telugu version, and adding to it, Varasudu will be released 3 days after the Tamil release. This whole situation has deeply angered Vijay, who reportedly lashed out at the team.
Varisu was recently submitted for censoring at the Censor Board of Film Certification. After the screening, the film received a U certificate. Industry sources reveal that the film is now on track for a grand release on January 11. The Telugu version will release on January 14th.
The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Sarathkumar, Jayasudha, Srikanth, Sham, and Prakash Raj in key roles. Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Cinema is bankrolling this project directed by Vamsi Paidipally.
