The Karnataka High Court has put a hold on the state government’s decision to limit movie ticket prices to ₹200 in all theaters and multiplexes. On September 23, 2025, they issued a temporary order following a legal battle with multiplex owners, film producers, and other folks in the industry.
In July 2025, the Karnataka government dropped a draft notification aiming to cap ticket prices at ₹200 under the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
The Multiplex Association of India and a bunch of film production companies, like the Hombale team behind Kantara, have filed petitions against the new rule.
The main points they made were that the petitioners argued the ₹200 limit was random and didn’t have any solid data or research to back it up.
Pawan Kalyan’s OG and Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 teams will be delighted with the decision of the Karnataka High Court, as they can put the ticket price as per the demand, not the limited price cap set by the government.
