Thandel is a comeback film for Naga Chaitanya, which had a terrific 1st weekend at the box office. Looking at the initial run of the film, the trade expected it to join the 100 Cr club easily, but the movie did not take much of a jump in the 2nd weekend. Thandel falls short of 100 Cr.
Also, the emotional drama starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi did not have any holiday advantage in its second week. Thandel has collected around 85 Cr gross, and this weekend, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon is leading at the box office. With this, now there is no chance for the film to enter the 100 Cr club. Naga Chaitanya and the Akkineni family need to wait for some more time to join this celebrated club.
Putting the 100 Cr club aside, Thandel is a very good and much-needed box office success for Naga Chaitanya, and it became his career’s highest grosser. The film did really well in India, but it disappointed big time with its overseas performance, which is also one of the reasons for the film not getting the expected numbers. Thandel falls short of 100 Cr as it did not create much impact in Tamil and Hindi as well.
Instead of 7th February, if the film had been released on 13th February, it could have done wonders at the box office with 4 days weekend advantage and Maha Shiivaratri holiday in 2nd week.
