Telangana Single Screens Refuse Peddi Screenings

Ram Charan’s much-awaited film Peddi is facing a major distribution crisis in Telangana ahead of its June 4, 2026 release. Single-screen theater owners across the state are refusing to screen the film following a standoff with leading production houses over revenue-sharing models.

Distribution Standoff Escalates

Single-screen exhibitors in Telangana are demanding an end to the rental-based system currently in place and are pushing for a percentage-sharing model similar to what multiplex chains follow. According to theater owners, the rental model is no longer financially viable for single screens, which have been struggling to stay afloat amid rising operational costs and competition from multiplexes.

However, leading production houses like Mythri Movie Makers, which is backing Peddi, are reportedly opposing the shift to a percentage system. This disagreement has created a stalemate, with several exhibitors now unwilling to screen the film under the existing rental terms.

How Many Theaters Are Affected?

Initially, it was believed that only 23 theaters had taken this stand. However, exhibitors are now claiming that single screens across Telangana may follow suit, potentially affecting the film’s release in a significant number of theaters statewide.

If all single-screen theaters in Telangana decide to skip Peddi, it could seriously impact the film’s opening day collections and overall box office performance. Single screens, despite declining in number, still contribute significantly to footfalls in smaller towns and cities across the state.

What This Means for Ram Charan

For Ram Charan, who is coming off the massive success of RRR, Peddi represents a crucial solo outing. Any reduction in screen count, especially in his home state, could dent the film’s box office prospects. The makers and exhibitors will need to reach a resolution in the coming days to avoid a last-minute release crisis.

It remains to be seen whether Mythri Movie Makers and other producers will negotiate a middle ground or if the Telangana single-screen boycott becomes a reality.
