Gaami, the most anticipated film in recent times, has had a mixed reception upon release and is performing decently at the box office; it’ll achieve the breakeven mark and enter the profit zone by this weekend. Having said that, the makers of this fanatsy epic must be applauded for the ambitious attempt they’ve made.
However, a targeted negative campaign on Gaami has been executed by an anonymous individual or group; this is evident on the popular booking platform Book My Show. Numerous bots have been created to pull the film’s rating down by posting 1/10 ratings in mass. According to Vishwak Sen, the film’s lead actor, even some genuine 9/10 reviews have suddenly dropped to 1/10 ratings, indicating the existence of a targeted negative campaign. In an official statement, Vishwak thanked the media, critics, and audiences who hailed the film, thus making it a box-office success. He ended the note by stating that ‘appropriate legal measures’ will be taken to address this fake ratings mafia.
This is not the first instance of a film being killed with a deliberate spread of negative talk. Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise (2021) has faced the same issue with enormous negativity on social media right from the first day. Most recently, ‘Super Star’ Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram (2024) faced the exact same issue as Gaami: bots engineered to post low ratings in mass thus pulling the overall rating down.
