A. R. Jaffer Sadiq, a noted producer of Tamil cinema, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on March 9th for his alleged involvement in the drug racket case. He is accused of being the kingpin in a ₹2,000-crore international drug trafficking racket that has allegedly trafficked over 3500 kg of psuedoephedrine to Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia.
According to Gyaneshwar Singh, deputy director general of NCB, Mr. Sadiq is the mastermind behind this operation. He invested his drug business earnings into real estate and film production; Mangai (2024), a film starring Anandhi, was allegedly funded by this ill-gotten money.
Mr. Sadiq was also a member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s NRI wing for the Chennai District-West; he was expelled from the party following this news outbreak. Coming to his film career, he is the director of JSM Pictures, a film production company based in Chennai; some projects they’ve created include Mangai (2024), Iraivan Miga Periyavan, and Maayavalai; however, neither of these have hit the screens till date.
