Adipurush vs Ramayana Day 1 Box Office: Same Start, Different Stories

Ramayana and Adipurush are both big-screen retellings of the same epic, and on Day 1, their worldwide openings have landed in almost the same range. But the way they got there, and where they are headed, couldn’t be more different.

Adipurush Leads in India

In India, Adipurush had the bigger start. The Prabhas film collected over ₹100 Cr gross on its opening day, while Ramayana collected ₹77 Cr gross, including 3D charges.

Adipurush benefited from strong performances in both Telugu and Hindi. Prabhas’s huge following in the Telugu states, combined with a big opening in the Hindi markets, gave it a strong all-India number.

Ramayana, on the other hand, got a smaller contribution from its dubbed versions. Apart from Karnataka, where Yash’s presence drove a big opening, the South versions didn’t add as much as Adipurush’s Telugu version did.

Ramayana Leads Overseas

Overseas, the story flips. Ramayana has a big lead over Adipurush in international markets, with an estimated ₹50 Cr from overseas on Day 1.

That overseas strength brings Ramayana level with Adipurush worldwide.

Adipurush vs Ramayana: Day 1 Box Office (Gross)

  • India: Adipurush ₹100 Cr+ | Ramayana ₹77 Cr
  • Overseas: Ramayana leads
  • Worldwide: Both between ₹125 Cr and ₹130 Cr

The Difference Starts From Day 2

The openings may be similar, but the response is not. Adipurush faced heavy criticism from audiences and critics after its release, and its collections dropped sharply from the second day. The film ended its run at around ₹400 Cr gross.

Ramayana has received the opposite response. Audiences and critics have both praised the film, and its word of mouth is strong. That’s why, from Day 2 onwards, Adipurush is expected to be nowhere near Ramayana.

The Road Ahead

With positive reviews and the Diwali holidays ahead, Ramayana is expected to collect at least ₹1,500 Cr, and it could even reach the ₹2,000 Cr range. If it does, it has a real shot at becoming the biggest grosser in Indian cinema history.

Adipurush vs Ramayana: The Big Picture

  • Adipurush: Big opening, negative response, closed at around ₹400 Cr
  • Ramayana: Similar opening, strong response, expected ₹1,500 Cr+

Two films on the same epic, with the same kind of start, are set to have completely different endings at the box office.
