Baahubali was the film that began the trend of making movies in multiple parts. Inspired by its success, many other films like KGF, Pushpa, Ponniyin Selvan, Kantara, and others have followed the same path by planning sequels.
Earlier, movies like Baahubali 1 & 2 and KGF 1 & 2 were released one after the other, with the director and lead actor fully focused on the project. But now, while many films announce sequels, they are not being made or released immediately. This has become a common pattern.
For example:
- KGF 2 ended with a hint for KGF 3
- Pushpa 2 teased Pushpa 3
- Salaar hinted at Salaar 2
- Kalki set up Kalki 2
- Devara announced Devara 2
Recently, Pawan Kalyan’s OG announced plans for both a sequel and a prequel. Kantara Chapter 1 also hinted at a follow-up, and Teja Sajja’s Mirai included a scene that connects to a second part.
Devara, OG and Mirai announced for Sequels: But when will they arrive?
Many films are announcing sequels but not making them right away. Actors and directors are moving on to other projects, saying the next parts will happen eventually, but will take time.
It remains to be seen how this trend will evolve. If parts 1 and 2 of a film are released close together, they can have a strong impact, as audiences stay connected to the characters and story. But if the stars and directors work on other films before returning to the franchise, the success of those other films may affect how interested audiences remain in the sequel.
Baahubali started this sequel trend, but only time will tell how it continues with today’s franchise films.
