In a repeat of the 2019 Sankranti box-office battle, 2025 is set to witness another high-profile clash between three of Tollywood’s biggest stars: Ram Charan, Balakrishna, and Venkatesh. Ram Charan’s much-anticipated Game Changer, directed by Shankar, is slated to release on January 10th, while Balakrishna’s yet-untitled film with Bobby is scheduled for January 12th. Venkatesh, teaming up with Anil Ravipudi, will release his next on January 14th.
While Game Changer is leading in terms of budget and pre-release business, Balakrishna’s film follows closely with its star power and fanbase. Venkatesh’s movie might have a smaller budget but can’t be underestimated, especially given his collaboration with Ravipudi, known for delivering entertaining family hits.
However, budget and star power alone don’t dictate Sankranti’s success. In previous years, medium-budget films have surprised everyone, emerging as winners despite stiff competition. For instance, in 2024, Hanuman stole the spotlight among high budget movies like Guntur Karam, Saindhav, and Naa Samai Ranga.
During the 2019 Sankranti clash, Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama, Balakrishna’s NTR Kathanayakudu, and Venkatesh’s F2 competed at the box office. Despite the hype around the first two, it was F2 that emerged as the winner, thanks to its comedy and Venkatesh’s performance, resonating well with the festive audience. With excitement brewing for Sankranti 2025, the ultimate winner remains uncertain. It’s a season where content often trumps budget, and audiences are eager to see which film will capture the festive mood and box office glory.
