Fans have been waiting with bated breath ever since the title Ravanasura was announced for this Sudheer Verma- Ravi Teja combo. The film features Mass Maharaja in a grey shade and the promotional content has definitely created great expectations among film lovers. Did Ravanasura manage to stand up to the hype? Let’s find out.
Story: A series of murders are happening and they are somehow linked to Ravi (Ravi Teja) who’s a criminal lawyer. He stumbles upon a case of Harika (Megha Akash) and shows a great deal of interest in it. What’s so special about these cases and what is Ravi’s connection to these murders is what Ravanasura explores.
Performances: Ravi Teja is the heart and soul of Ravanasura. He showcases equal ease in both positive and negative shades and transitions between the two moods with great ease. Ravi Teja in a grey shade has a terrific screen presence and wows one and all. Faria Abdullah as Ravi Teja’s senior lawyer and ex has a substantial role and does well and so does Megha Akash who has good screen time. Sushant has an important role in the film and does fine with no spectacular performance being shown on his part. Other cast members like Daksha Nagarkar, Anu Emanuel, and Poojita Ponnada are there for brief moments and add little value to the proceedings.
Analysis: The basic premise of the movie is quite intriguing, however, the film’s initial pace is quite dull and it gets off to a rather slow start in the first half before picking up after 30 minutes. The love track is quite out of place and dampens the psychological thriller element of the film. While the film gets off the mark quite slowly, it picks up towards the interval with an interesting track and twist. The second half is where the movie is in its element with some great narration which unfortunately isn’t sustained till the end.
Plus Points:
- Ravi Teja’s negative characterization
- Interval bang
- Production values
Minus Points:
- Slow narration
- Dull screenplay
- Too many characters with little importance
Verdict:
Ravanasura is a film that has terrific potential on paper and is let down by screenplay. The film could well have given the fans another amazing display of Ravi Teja’s acting prowess. Overall, Ravansura would be enjoyable for fans of the psychological thriller genre. While the general audience also has some whistle-worthy moments, it won’t exactly keep them hooked throughout and that is the biggest issue with the film intended to be a thriller.
