Rashmika Mandanna in MS Subbulakshmi Biopic Reports

Reports about a biopic on legendary Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi garu have been circulating for months in the industry. The MS Subbulakshmi biopic reports initially suggested Sai Pallavi would act in the film, but the latest June 2026 reports indicate that Rashmika Mandanna has emerged as the frontrunner for this prestigious role.

Rashmika Mandanna Completes Look Test

The highly anticipated biopic on the Bharat Ratna recipient is set to be directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who earned critical acclaim for his sports drama Jersey (2019) starring Nani. The project is reportedly backed by Geetha Arts, one of Telugu cinema’s leading production houses.

According to the latest updates, Rashmika Mandanna has completed a costume-based look test for the MS Subbulakshmi biopic, signaling serious progress in the casting process. While Sai Pallavi was initially considered the first choice, and Kannada actress Rukmini Vasanth‘s name also appeared in earlier rumors, the role now appears to have moved toward Rashmika.

About MS Subbulakshmi

M.S. Subbulakshmi (1916–2004) was an iconic Indian Carnatic vocalist revered as the “Queen of Music.” She was the first musician ever awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, and the first Indian to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. Her rendition of “Bhaja Govindam” and “Vishnu Sahasranamam” remain timeless classics.

For Rashmika Mandanna, portraying such a revered cultural icon would mark a significant shift from her typical commercial roles. The biopic is expected to chronicle MS Subbulakshmi’s journey from her early days in Madurai to becoming one of India’s most celebrated artists. Official confirmation from the makers is still awaited.
