Sankranthi 2026 proved to be a solid money earner for the distributors and producers as well, with multiple films achieving success. However, the post-Sankranti slump hits small films hard, as none of the films have gotten even decent collections at the box office in recent weeks.
Films like Couple Friendly and Funky arrived in theaters on Valentine’s Weekend, but still, they did not receive considerable collections at the box office. The biggest challenge for small- and medium-budget films is the post-Sankranti slowdown. After the festive season, audiences usually stay away from theaters until the summer.
To draw crowds during this period, a film needs either unanimously positive word of mouth or strong pre-release buzz. Because people watch multiple films for Sankranti, and exam time starts for the students, families will not easily come to theaters till the summer season.
This year, after the Sankranthi releases, not a single film has managed to register a double-digit gross in the Telugu states.
