For a few days, there have been many twists and turns around the theatrical release of Balakrishna and Boyapati Sreenu’s Akhanda 2. Efforts to clear the film quickly are underway, with the approval of Netflix playing a key part for Akhanda 2.
It’s a known fact that OTT platforms are playing a big role in Telugu films’ release dates as they are buying the films for big amounts. They put some slots for every film to stream and guide the producers to deliver the film according to their plan.
Netflix has bought Akhanda 2 OTT rights for a huge amount, and the movie follows a 4-week theatrical-to-OTT window. So, mostly they would have fixed a slot around the 1st week of January.
If Akhanda 2 releases today or tomorrow, then the allotted slot is fine. If the postponement extends, the producers of Akhanda 2 must secure Netflix’s approval before announcing a new release date, as the platform needs to review its schedule and communicate accordingly.
Producers are working hard to resolve issues today and plan to release the film tomorrow. Some believe it’s impractical, anticipating a big delay for the film. We need to see how things develop.
