There have been instances where strong reactions from the public result in changes in films’ scenes or content. But for the first time, Netflix has changed a film’s content with Dhurandhar because of viewers’ complaints and strong reactions.
Dhurandhar started streaming on Netflix from December 31, but instead of celebration, the film faced harsh criticism from viewers for its poor color grading and washed-out visuals.
Netflix receives backlash from OTT viewers for changes made to Dhurandhar
Many complained that the OTT version looked significantly inferior to the theatrical experience, with dull contrast and muted colors ruining the impact of the film. Following the massive backlash and sustained fan pressure on social media, Netflix India has now quietly rolled out an updated version of the film.
The AV1 bitrate has reportedly been increased from 1.79 Mbps to 12.56 Mbps, nearly six times more data, resulting in noticeably better contrast, deeper shadows, and restored blue and orange tones. This post-release technical fix is a rare move from Netflix, highlighting the impact of audience reaction to Dhurandhar.
