Priya Bhavani Shankar has been waiting for a breakthrough in Telugu cinema, and Irumudi could finally be the film that gives her one. After making her Telugu debut with Kalyanam Kamaneeyam in 2023, she followed it up with Gopichand’s Bhimaa in 2024. Neither film emerged as a notable commercial success, leaving Priya Bhavani Shankar without a major Telugu hit despite establishing herself as a familiar face in the industry.

Her Telugu web-series outing Dhootha, however, was a success and helped her gain further recognition. Now, with Irumudi releasing today, the actress appears to have finally found the right opportunity to make a bigger impact in Telugu cinema.

A Big Break in Telugu

Priya’s journey in Tamil cinema has been considerably more rewarding. Since her film debut with Meyaadha Maan, she has featured in several notable projects, including Monster, Yaanai, Thiruchitrambalam, Pathu Thala, Indian 2 and Demonte Colony 2. Her performances and consistent presence have established her as a dependable actress in Tamil cinema.

Telugu, however, has remained an unfinished chapter for her. Irumudi gives her a much stronger platform, with Priya Bhavani Shankar playing Kaveri, the wife of Ravi Teja’s character and mother to the central child character. The film is directed by Shiva Nirvana and is built around an intense family story, particularly the emotional bond between a father and daughter.

A Comeback for Ravi Teja & Shiva Nirvana

Released in theatres today, Irumudi has opened to positive early audience reactions, with particular appreciation for Ravi Teja’s performance, the emotional core and Baby Nakshatra’s portrayal of the daughter. The film is also being viewed as a potential comeback for Ravi Teja, while it marks an important return to the family-drama space for director Shiva Nirvana.

For Priya, however, the significance could be even greater. After establishing herself in Tamil cinema and making a successful OTT appearance with Dhootha, she now has a well-received theatrical Telugu film on her résumé. If the positive word of mouth translates into sustained box-office momentum, Irumudi could finally become the Telugu breakthrough Priya Bhavani Shankar has been waiting for.
