Rating: 2/5
Cast: Ravi Teja, Bhagyasree Borse, Jagapathi Babu
Director: Harish Shankar
Produced By: TG Viswa Prasad
Release Date: August 15th, 2024
Director Harish Shankar has been successful in his remake ventures so far. It all started with Gabbar Singh, a remake of Dabangg where Pawan Kalyan’s energetic performance made the film a cult blockbuster. He backed it up with the commercial success of Gaddalakonda Ganesh (Jigarthanda remake). With Ravi Teja reuniting with the director, Let’s see if Harish Shankar can score a hat-trick with this Raid remake in form of Mr Bachchan.
Story:
Anand (Ravi Teja), commonly called Mr. Bachchan is a sincere Income Tax officer. His sincerity is rewarded with a suspension when he goes against powerful forces. Suspended and dejected, he returns to his hometown where he falls in love with Jikki (Bhagyasri). This is where Bachchan comes across Mutyam Jagayya (Jagapathi Babu) and their paths cross both professionally and personally. What happens next is what the story follows.
Performances:
In a part that seems to be tailored just for him, Ravi Teja shines the brightest. He gives a performance that is full of charm and energy both as a romantic protagonist and a dedicated IT officer. His on screen chemistry with Bhagyashree Borse is lovely to watch and their track adds a good touch to the film. Bhagyasree Borse makes a solid debut with Mr Bachchan and has a good screen presence and great dancing skills. Her acting skills, however, are not put to test and it is a typical flowerpot role with no substance. Jagapathi Babu as Mutyam Jagayya has done what he’s been doing for several years. His role unfortunately gets sidelined in the mess of a screenplay.
Analysis:
Mr. Bachchan has been made in Telugu to suit local nativity. Unfortunately, unlike in Gabbar Singh and Gaddalakonda Ganesh, Harish Shankar has failed to recreate an equally engaging world. The screenplay lags, the filler scenes annoy and comedy scenes are plain unfunny. This complete change in screenplay and characterization has backfired big time.
Positives:
- Ravi Teja
- Music
- Fights
Negatives:
- Poor adaptation
- Lengthy runtime
- Comedy scenes
- Outdated scenes
Verdict:
Mr Bachchan is neither as engaging as Raid nor is it original and entertaining as a standalone commercial entertainer. The film is caught between the two worlds and neither Ravi Teja nor commercial elements can save it.
