Legendary actress Jamuna passes away

Legendary Telugu actress and former parliamentarian J Jamuna passed away at her residence in Hyderabad after a brief illness due to age-related issues, informed her family. Jamuna, 86 acted in about 200 movies in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi, is survived by a son and a daughter.

In a career centered around the ‘golden age of Telugu cinema,’ the actress shared the screen with all the first-generation Telugu stars like NTR, ANR, SV Ranga Rao, and others. She made her debut in 1953 with ‘Puttillu’.

She rose to stardom with the cult-classic ‘Missamma’ in 1955 where she was seen alongside Savitri, ANR and NTR, and SV Ranga Rao. She went on to star in several classic blockbusters like Mooga Manasulu, Sri Krishna Tulabharam, Appu Chesi Pappu Koodu, Bhagyarekha, Donga Ramudu, and others.

Jamuna was elected to the Lok Sabha representing Congress from Rajahmundry in 1989. She later took a break away from politics and even campaigned for BJP during the late 90s.
