Because the current generation stars of Tamil cinema did not create their presence in Bollywood markets yet, and their regional big star, Vijay, is retiring from films. Ajith has a big market in Tamil Nadu, but in the rest of the markets, he is still seeing struggles as he does not have a good market in other languages. Suriya and Vikram are also struggling in a very big way. Superstar Rajinikanth is still having a great market, but his age does not support him in all kinds of films, while Kamal Haasan is a known star in all languages, but he is not consistent at the box office.

A few years back, Kollywood used to lead South Indian Cinema, and their domination was evident with their movies crossing boundaries, whereas Telugu Cinema, at that time, was sticking to regional markets. Now, over the years, the tables have turned, and Kollywood lacks big stars to show their dominance.

So Kollywood producers do not believe that their stars are capable of pulling 600, 700 Cr budget films. Whereas in Telugu, the producers are in queue to spend bigger budgets for stars, and the movies are not only limited to Telugu, but they are making them at a pan-India level. 

Now, Prabhas, Mahesh, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan, and NTR’s films are all being made with big budgets. Even the Kollywood directors and producers are aiming to make films with Telugu heroes due to the pan-Indian factor.
