Suriya’s upcoming film Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, has successfully completed its censor formalities with a U/A certificate. The much-awaited superhero drama is all set for its theatrical release on May 14, with the official trailer expected to drop soon.

The makers of Karuppu took to social media to officially announce that the film has cleared the censor board process by obtaining a U/A certificate. This milestone clears the path for the film’s promotional campaign ahead of its mid-May release.
Plot and Suriya’s Role
Reportedly, Suriya portrays Saravanan, an advocate in the film who, when unable to administer justice through legal channels, is possessed by the deity Karuppasaami to deliver divine justice. Director RJ Balaji has earlier described Karuppu as a full-fledged mass superhero story packed with action, dance, and emotions.
Star-Studded Cast
The film features Trisha as the female lead, reuniting her with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya after nearly two decades. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, acclaimed Malayalam actor Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika (famous for Lubber Pandhu), Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi.
Release Date Locked for May 14
With the censor formalities now cleared, Karuppu is locked for a May 14, 2026 theatrical release. The film will release as Veerabhadrudu in Telugu. Fans can expect the theatrical trailer to arrive in the coming days as the promotional campaign kicks into high gear.
