Popular director and actor Sundar C faced a disappointing result in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. The filmmaker, who entered active politics and contested from the Madurai Central constituency as an AIADMK candidate, suffered a major defeat and could not even secure the second position in the final tally.

What made the result more significant was the strong performance of Vijay’s TVK party candidate, who emerged victorious with a comfortable margin in the same constituency. The result has now become one of the most discussed topics in Tamil Nadu political and film circles.
Sundar C, known for delivering several successful commercial entertainers in Tamil cinema, entered the election race with confidence. According to his election affidavit, he declared his profession as feature film director, actor, television serial producer, and feature film producer. His educational qualification was listed as 10th Pass.
Cinema Fame vs Political Reality
Despite his popularity in the film industry, the election result proved that converting cinema fame into political success is never easy. Many expected Sundar C to put up a strong fight, but the final outcome turned out to be a huge setback for the filmmaker-politician.
Interestingly, before the elections, Sundar C maintained a respectful stance toward TVK Chief Vijay. He openly stated that Vijay is like a brother to his wife, actress-politician Khushbu Sundar, and clarified that he would never speak negatively about Vijay just for political mileage.
That statement had received appreciation from both film audiences and political observers, as Sundar C chose to keep personal relationships above political rivalry.
