Cinephiles in the Kannada film industry seem to have been severely upset with their Telugu counterparts. It all began with Yash’s gangster drama Toxic. Released to poor reviews from critics, the film underperformed at the box office. Following its disappointing run, sections of the Telugu film community on X went on to troll Yash, writer-director Geetu Mohandas and others associated with the film.
Tit For Tat
Now that a Telugu biggie has hit the big screens and appears to be meeting a similar fate, sections of the Kannada audience on X seem to be seeking revenge. As the title suggests, we are talking about Nani’s The Paradise. Released to mixed-to-negative reviews from audiences, the film is reportedly witnessing a significant drop in collections across several markets. This has prompted some Kannada fans on X to celebrate the film’s reported struggles, drawing comparisons with the reactions to Toxic.
TFI Fans On Duty
Regardless of language, Telugu Yuvatha have consistently supported films they consider good, with the response to films like Chhaava being one example. At the same time, films that receive a negative response are often subjected to heavy trolling on social media, and Toxic was no exception. The online reaction to The Paradise appears to be another chapter in this ongoing fan-war dynamic. Hopefully, fans across both industries can appreciate good cinema irrespective of language rather than turning individual film failures into a rivalry.
