Jio Hotstar, one of the top streaming Indian platforms, has reached 300 million subscribers, putting it neck-and-neck with Netflix’s last reported count of 301.6 million. It’s all set to overtake Netflix in subscriber count.
The merger and the combination of Disney+ Hotstar’s existing big user base helped the OTT platform to reach this bigger reach, and mainly sports events, such as IPL and ICC tourneys, will be available for Hotstar Big Subscribers.
Recently, they have been focusing on big films as well. Netflix subscription also costs more than Jio Hotstar, which is the main reason for it to get 300 million subscribers in our home, India.
JioHotstar excels in live sports (cricket!), regional content, and budget-friendly, bundled plans with HBO/Peacock titles, making it great for Indian families and sports fans; while Netflix leads in high-quality, globally appealing original series/movies, consistent 4K streaming, and a vast library of Hollywood blockbusters, catering more to cinephiles wanting premium international shows.
