Andhra Pradesh Cinematography and Tourism Minister Sri Kandula Durgesh has directed the Home Department’s Chief Secretary, Kumar Vishwajit, to initiate a detailed investigation into the exhibitors’ decision to shut down theatres from June 1. The directive comes amid rising concerns that a group of individuals may be influencing this move for vested interests.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that certain parties are exerting pressure to close theatres ahead of the release of the much-anticipated film ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu’. In response, Minister Durgesh held discussions with top officials to look into the background of this abrupt decision and identify those responsible.

He further stressed the need to examine whether exhibitors and distributors have formed a cartel and are collectively making decisions that could harm the industry. The government aims to understand the wider implications of this potential shutdown, including the number of films that may be affected and the resulting impact on tax revenues.
