Jana Nayagan Hurdles Continue Despite Vijay as Tamil Nadu CM

The release hurdles of Jana Nayagan yet to be cleared.

Despite Vijay becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu just a week ago, the release hurdles for his final film Jana Nayagan show no signs of ending. The political action thriller remains stuck in censor limbo, with no certification in sight.

Bakrid Release Hope Fades, June 19 Now Targeted

Fans and trade circles had hoped that Jana Nayagan would release during the Bakrid weekend in late May, expecting Vijay’s new political stature to ease the approval process. However, those hopes have been dashed.

According to latest reports, the makers are no longer targeting a May release. Instead, the team is now eyeing June 19 as the new release date — strategically positioned just three days before Vijay’s birthday on June 22.

Censor Certificate Still Pending

The film has not yet received its censor certificate, despite months of legal battles and revising committee screenings. The certification process has been marred by complications since early 2026, with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raising concerns over certain scenes.

The prolonged delays have created a crisis for producer KVN Productions, with significant financial implications and declining business value. It remains to be seen when the clearance process will be completed and the Jana Nayagan hurdles will finally be cleared.

Vijay’s Final Acting Project

Jana Nayagan marks a significant milestone as Vijay’s last film before his complete transition to politics. The actor took oath as Tamil Nadu's ninth Chief Minister on May 10, 2026, after his TVK party emerged as the single-largest party in the assembly elections.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film is an official remake of the Telugu blockbuster Bhagavanth Kesari. Mamitha Baiju and Pooja Hegde play crucial roles, while the music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
