Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 directed by Shankar has marked itself as one of the biggest disasters in the history of Kollywood. The budget of Indian 2 and Indian 3 combined is reportedly more than 500 Cr and some parts of Indian 3 shoot and other Post-production works are pending. Hence, there is a chance of production cost rising further.
Indian 2 did good non-theatrical business and satellite and OTT rights were sold for a big price. The theatrical release was done mostly on an advance basis. The film failed massively in theatres and collected around just 70 Cr share which is very low and marked huge losses of Lyca Productions and Red Giant Films.
Due to this terrible box-offie performance, the OTT and non theatrical partners not paying the full amounts and have started negotiations. This has directly affected the business of Indian 3 as well. The producers need to recover 600 Cr from these two parts and the failure of Indian 2 has put them in big trouble.
Directed by Shankar, Indian 2 also stars Siddharth, Rakulpreet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Nedumudi Venu and SJ Suryah in key roles. This pan-India biggie was produced by Lyca Productions and Redu Giant Movies with Anirudh Ravichander composing the tunes.
