It looks like the theaters in Andhra Pradesh are going to have tough time going forward too. The High Court has earlier suspended G.O.35 stating that only theater owners have the right to fix ticket prices. But things changed now and a division bench of court with chief justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and M Satyanarayana Murthy have reviewed this suspension.
A petition was filed by principle secretary from Andhra Pradesh. The bench has reviewed this petition and stated that the theater owners have right to fix prices accordingly. However, the joint collector of the district should finalize these prices.
The bench has decided that only joint collector of respective districts have right to authorize and fix ticket rates. The further hearing regarding the same will be done on Monday.
It looks like the state government of Andhra Pradesh is no mood to let go the cinema industry and theaters. Officials started raiding the theaters once the G.O.35 was suspended. The government also issued statement that the food and beverages present in theater must be sold at MRP only.
With so many big movies lined up to release in January on the occasion of Sankranti, we have to see how the ticiket issue is going to be in Andhra Pradesh.
