Nani’s The Paradise is gearing up for its worldwide theatrical release on September 24, with paid premieres beginning on September 23. Directed by Srikanth Odela and produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri under SLV Cinemas, the period action drama stars Nani, Kayadu Lohar, Mohan Babu, Raghav Juyal and Sonali Kulkarni. Set in a fictional region in 1984-85, the film revolves around a marginalised community fighting for its identity and existence, with the mother-son bond at the heart of the story. With strong advance sales and considerable pre-release buzz, expectations are high for its opening.
CBFC Orders 21 Changes
The film’s censor process has become a major talking point after the CBFC suggested 21 changes. The modifications reportedly include changes to visuals depicting violence and bloodshed, muting cuss words, deleting certain dialogues, removing a foul-word tattoo from Nani’s character’s hand and adding statutory warnings. The Paradise has received an A certificate, while its final runtime is reported at 174 minutes, or 2 hours and 54 minutes, following the changes. Reports suggest that this is the most censored feature film in Telugu since Puri Jagannadh’s Businessman (2012).
The Original Version Remains
Interestingly, audiences outside India will reportedly get to watch an uncut version of The Paradise, with the overseas print retaining the portions altered for the Indian theatrical release. 123Telugu reports that the overseas version has no cuts, beeps or mutes, making it closer to the version Srikanth Odela originally intended. The overseas premieres begin on September 23, while Indian audiences will get the censored theatrical version from September 24.
