Gautam Menon’s wait for a hit at the box office continues. The director is regarded as a filmmaker with a good following and craze. His films were also a success in Telugu. However, his recent films failed to make an impact. He also tried acting, and he succeeded in his attempt. But still, as a director, he is waiting for a big comeback. Gautam Menon’s comeback falls short of expectations.
When GVM joined hands with Malayalam Superstar Mammootty, everyone expected it would be a comeback for him, and the film, Dominic And The Ladies Purse was released last weekend. For 4 days weekend, the film collected around 8 Cr gross in India, while it gathered 7 Cr gross overseas. The total collection stands at 15 Cr gross which is a very average weekend for Mammootty starrer film.
Dominic And The Ladies Purse receives mixed reviews
The film also received average Word of mouth and reviews. According to the majority of the critics, Gautham Vasudev Menon tried to set an uncomplicated plot. Still, the overall execution of the film feels unpolished and lacks sophistication — it gives off the impression of being made by someone without much experience, despite featuring Mammootty. Mainly audiences felt it was a slow film which impacted its outcome. Because of such a poor response, Gautam Menon’s comeback falls short of expectations.
On Monday, the film is said to have seen a drop at the box office. With this, Gautham Menon will have to wait for another big opportunity to make a proper comeback. His most delayed project Dhruva Natchathiram is planned for this summer release. Let’s see whether that film can make a comeback for Gautham Menon.
