Game Changer, the much-awaited film from Global Star Ram Charan arrives in theaters today after being on the shooting stage for over 3 years. The film is also a crucial one for director Shankar, who scored a miserable disaster with his previous film, Indian 2. Let’s get into the details of how well the legendary director has made this film.
Story:
Appana, a man who fights for the people, starts a political party to bring about greater change. However, he is backstabbed by his own allies. The story revolves around how his dream is ultimately fulfilled by his son, Ram Nandan.
Performances:
Ram Charan gave a solid performance as Appanna, and he was also good as Ram Nandan, with dashing looks in the college part. S Suryah’s characterization appears repetitive, but still, he provides the right impact with his performance. Anjali and Srikanth were good in some crucial scenes. Kiara Advani looked gorgeous, and she did not have much scope to perform. Samuthirakani, Sunil, Rajeev Kanakala, Jayaram, and others were alright.
Analysis:
Game Changer starts well by introducing Ram Charan as a strict IAS officer and SJ Suryah as a powerful minister with ambitions of becoming the chief minister. However, Director Shankar fails to connect the emotions of the characters with the audience, and the love track falls flat. Despite this, the film compensates with an impactful interval block.
The second half begins on a high note, with Ram Charan delivering an extraordinary performance as Appana. The entire flashback episode works well. However, the scenes following the flashback fail to make an impact or establish a solid connection. Shankar’s narrative becomes unclear and stays off track, leaving the audience confused about his attempt to justify the flashback. The momentum drops, and the weak climax further diminishes the film’s impact.
Positives:
- Appana’s portions and Ram Charan’s performance
- SJ Suryah’s performance
- Music and songs
- Interval block
Negatives:
- Love track
- Weak pre-climax and climax
- Abrupt editing
- Regular and routine screenplay
Game Changer Movie Review and Verdict:
Overall, Game Changer is a mixed and watchable film for the festival season. However, if you are expecting a vintage Shankar film, it falls far short. It ends up being a regular, half-baked commercial entertainer.
