Suriya’s Karuppu became a huge blockbuster at the box office, delivering him a much needed comeback after a decade. But the film also faced multiple delays for it’s theatrical release.
Main reason for Karuppu release delays and pre release financial hurdles. Reportedly the film faced a deficit before the release as producer SR Prabhu calculated that OTT would offer ₹75–80 crore for Karuppu.

However, the digital platforms have said to offered only ₹30 crore, which resulted in a huge deficit and an 8-month delay. The movie was planned for a Diwali 2025 release itself.
But it did not release and there were several release dates mentioned such as Pongal 2026. Finally, the film was announced to be released on May 14th’ but shockingly it didn’t not release on that day.
Karuppu’s Blockbuster Run Proves Suriya’s Star Power
Suriya came forward and settled all the issues for a smooth release , and it was released on May 15th.
Despite facing all such issues and hurdles, the film, Karuppu scored a mammoth success with close to 315 Cr worlwide gross, putting everyone in a profitable position and delivering a solid comeback for Suriya.
