Franchise Films Rock Kerala, Except Pushpa 2

Pushpa 2: The Rule witnessed one of the most underwhelming openings ever for an Indian film in Japan, especially when compared to major Indian theatrical releases in recent years. According to Mimorin tracking data, the film managed to sell only around 886 tickets on Day 1, which is far below expectations and failed to place it among the top Indian openings in Japan.

Franchise films like Baahubali 2, KGF 2, LCU film Leo, and Mohanlal’s Empuraan did very well at the Kerala box office, but Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 failed to meet expectations and became a big failure.

Apart from Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated sequel, all the films listed above debuted with record-breaking numbers and achieved massive success over time in Kerala.

Now Kantara Chapter 1 has also exceeded trade’s expectations, and despite not having much pre-release jump and multiple films running in theaters, it still sees a 6 Cr opening, which is one of the biggest openings in Kerala.

Pushpa 2 Kerala: A Disappointing Result

Surprisingly, the Rishab Shetty directorial nearly matches the opening of the highly anticipated project, Pushpa 2, at the Kerala Box Office.

Among franchise films, only Pushpa 2 failed to impress both in its opening and long run in Kerala. The film was expected to take a record opening but settled with just around a 6.3 Cr opening, and in its full run, it received disastrous collections.

Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to perform well in the long run, as the initial word-of-mouth for the film has been positive.
