After an average opening day, Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter picked up well on day 2 and held steady on day 3. With Sunday coming in as day 4, the film was expected to do good numbers in the range of Day 2 where it collected Rs 40Cr+ nett in India thanks to positive word of mouth.
However, the day 4 collections were not as strong as expected and saw just a minimal jump around [10%] from day 3. In the overseas market, the film saw a drop on Sunday which was unexpected and a bad sign for sure.
A few months ago, everyone expected Fighter to do great numbers and even have a big opening weekend like Pathaan which was released on the same date last year. If not Pathaan, some expected Fighter to do numbers on par with War as both are Hrithik- Siddharth Anand combo action film. Unfortunately, Fighter failed to create buzz and yet opened with unanimous positive reviews and word of mouth. This day 1 positivity is not reflecting well in numbers.
We now need to see how the Fighter manages to perform from tomorrow. If it fails to collect more than Rs 300 crore net with this kind of word of mouth, then we can certainly conclude that this action thriller has underperformed.
