Censor killed OMG 2 box office numbers, says Amit Rai.
OMG 2 Vs Gadar 2 was an interesting clash at the box office in last August
As said above, despite facing a Mass storm like Gadar 2, OMG 2 was able to collect 150Cr Net in India. Gadar 2 collected 525Cr Net, which was an all-time record. Director Amit Rai opened about this clash and said that his movie had received extraordinary reviews, it would have done numbers like Gadar 2 if the censor board had given a U/A certificate.
The Censor team made many cuts to the film and gave an A certificate to OMG 2, which killed the movie according to the director as family audiences were unable to watch the movie and more than half of the revenue was lost for the film.
Directo Amit Rai says the Censor Board killed his film
“The year set a record for Hindi cinema in terms of footfalls, I believe. And I feel if my film did not have the A-certificate, this record would have been even bigger. I don’t know how much this film could have done. Perhaps if it was not an A-certificate film, it would have competed with Gadar 2 at the box office, generating revenue because it would have brought the families to the theaters. The censor board killed half of my family audience when they gave it the A-rating. The censor board hurt me financially too and in terms of content as well. However, those are past times” said Amit Rai.
OMG 2 was received so well by audiences upon its theatrical release. Definitely, as the director said, there was a big impact of the A certificate on the audiences. OMG 2 also had a terrific reception at the OTT stage.
