The censor board requested a title change for the film. The issue is about the upcoming Malayalam film JSK-Janaki vs. State of Kerala, featuring Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran. JSK was supposed to release in theaters on June 27, 2025.
Reports say the censor board rejected ‘Janaki’ due to its reference to Sita. According to the makers, the CBFC demanded they change the name ‘Janaki.’ The board stated that a woman who was assaulted should not bear God’s name.

The film received a U/A certificate from the CBFC’s Thiruvananthapuram office, yet the Mumbai office asked for a title modification. If the movie’s team changes the title, it will require adjustments in several dialogues.
Director Pravin Narayanan confirmed on Facebook Saturday that the censor board denied certification for the film. “There will be no release on June 27,” he wrote.
Film Employees Federation of Kerala Response
On Sunday in Kochi, B. Unnikrishnan, general secretary of FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala), informed reporters that the CBFC prohibited the use of the name Sita in JSK.
He said, “They have not received any written information in this regard. A show-cause notice is yet to be received. They expect to get it by Monday.”
