The censor issue surrounding Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is taking a new turn with every court hearing. There was recent buzz that the film might finally get relief and receive its censor certificate. But the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raised serious objections on Jana Nayagan, which led the court to order a rehearing of the case.
According to a CBFC member, Jana Nayagan contains certain visuals and dialogues that suggest foreign powers creating large-scale religious conflict in India. The board feels that such content could disturb religious harmony in the country.
The Madras High Court’s Division Bench has now set aside the earlier order passed by the Single Bench and has given priority to the CBFC’s procedures.
The High Court rejected the earlier Single Bench direction to issue a U/A certificate to the film immediately, and the Revising Committee will now examine it. The censor certificate will be issued only after the committee takes a final decision.
As things stand, there appears to be no chance of a February release for Jana Nayagan. Most likely, the film will hit theatres only after the elections.
