Buchi Babu has denied rumours that Peddi was originally written for NTR. The director clarified during Peddi promotions that Ram Charan was always his only choice for the lead role.

After Uppena, Buchi Babu spent nearly two years in discussions with NTR. Due to the actor’s prior commitments, the project could not materialize. The director later moved to Ram Charan.
This led to speculation in industry circles that the same script narrated to NTR was now being made with Charan. The rumours gained traction as the timeline between both actors became a topic of discussion.
Buchi Babu’s Clarification
Buchi Babu clarified that he had written the story even before Uppena. After Uppena’s release, he narrated the script to Sukumar, who immediately arranged a meeting with Ram Charan.
The director stated that while writing the character, he only had Charan in mind. Charan approved the film in a single sitting without suggesting any changes. Buchi Babu also mentioned that Peddi exists today because of Ram Charan’s support.
Industry Perspective
Buchi Babu did not immediately move to Ram Charan after Uppena. He stayed committed to NTR for a long time. The project was almost considered confirmed within industry circles.
Only at the final stage, due to NTR prioritizing other commitments, did the film shift towards Charan. Even the title Peddi was being speculated during that phase itself. This is why many audiences still believe the story might have first been narrated to NTR.
The director and Charan recently announced they will collaborate again after Peddi, confirming their strong working relationship.
